Over the weekend I went on an historic house tour put together by the Amherst Historical Society and sponsored by my office, which was how I was able to obtain a couple of free tickets.   The tour consisted of 6 homes that included several of Victorian era, an 18th century home that was later “married” to a newer home in the early 19th century, a mid-20th century home that is the residence of a college president, and one that was described in the brochure as a “saltbox” that was neither a saltbox nor historic, but was a nice contemporary nevertheless.  More…

Peoples Bank offering $500 off closing costs Reply

As an incentive to home buyers during the holiday season, Peoples Bank is offering $500 off closing costs on applications received by December 20, 2013.

According to their October 30th rate sheet, they are offering a 4.125% mortgage rate on a 30-year-fixed-rate mortgage. When figuring out what that would be in a mortgage payment, the rate sheet states that is $4.85 per $1,000. So if you mortgaged $300,000, that would be figured by calculating $4.85 X 300 for a payment of $1,455. Real estate taxes and insurance would add to your payment amount, as well. This is standard. Consumer confidence biggest threat to Pioneer Valley real estate market during government shutdown Reply

The government shutdown is obviously not good for the Pioneer Valley real estate market recovery. Home generators are great to have during a power outage. When the power goes out, we may miss our favorite tv show or an important game, our refrigerated food can spoil, we lose running water when we have a well, and it can get really cold in the house during the winter months. For some, power is essential to their very survival if they have a medical condition that requires electronic medical equipment.  There is no arguing the benefits of owning a generator. More…
