Grants for first-time home buyers looking to purchase a home in Amherst and Northampton are now available through the Valley Community Development Corporation (CDC).
To be eligible for the grant, the applicant must be a first-time home buyer as defined by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD defines first-time home buyers as households who have not owned a home in the last three years or households with a single parent.
Other requirements include having an accepted offer in writing, addressing any lead paint issues, and having income at or below 80% of the area medium income, and attend a first-time home buyer class.
A first-time home buyer class is scheduled for January and consists of four 2.5 hour sessions from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
There are four grants available in Amherst at $4,500 each and two grants available in Northampton at $3,000 each.
