As the mercury drops and we start to break out our winter clothes, remove the window air conditioning units, and start running the heat; it is also time to reverse the direction of our ceiling fans to save on our energy costs.
In the summer time, we love the feeling of that breeze coming from above. But the ceiling fan is also useful in the winter time as well when you reverse the direction of the fan.
When you reduce the direction of the fan it redistributes the rising warm air from the ceiling and down the walls into the living space as the illustration below demonstrates.
Reversing the direction of your ceiling fan is easy. The first thing you need to do is turn the ceiling fan off. Then all you need to do is grab a ladder or a chair and flick the switch on the hub of the fan. That’s it.
